Georgia Military College to Host Full Week of Events to Celebrate Patriot Day

Georgia Military College (GMC) will host a week-long series of events to honor Patriot Day, transforming the traditional observance into a full week of celebrations. These events will pay tribute to the nation’s heroes and highlight GMC’s commitment to leadership, patriotism, and community engagement. The week will culminate in a First Responders themed football game where First Responders will receive free admission.

 

Event Schedule:

1. Penley Unveiling

Date: Tuesday, September 10, 2024

Time: 2:30 PM

Location: NewDay USA Center of Leadership, GMC Campus

Details: The official unveiling of the Steve Penley paintings at the Center for Leadership. These works celebrate American patriotism and leadership, with proceeds from the print sales supporting public arts and leadership programs at GMC.

 

2. Patriot Day Ceremony

Date: Wednesday, September 11, 2024

Time: 7:45 AM

Location: Grant Parade Field, GMC Campus

Details: Our tradition ceremony to honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001. The ceremony will include a moment of silence, the playing of “Taps,” and remarks from GMC leadership.

 

3. Mattis Keynote Address and Ribbon Cutting for the NewDay USA Center of Leadership

Date: Thursday, September 12, 2024

Time: 1:00 PM

Location: NewDay USA Center of Leadership, GMC Campus

Details: General James “Jim” N. Mattis, 26th United States Secretary of Defense, will deliver a keynote address, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Center of Leadership. This event will highlight the significance of the Center in shaping future leaders and reinforcing GMC’s mission of “Duty, Honor, Country.”

 

4. Junior Football Game: GMC vs. Central Georgia Technical College

Date: Saturday, September 14, 2024

Time: 1:00 PM

Location: Davenport Field, GMC Campus

Details: A First Responders themed game where all First Responders will receive free admission. This game will honor the bravery and dedication of those who serve our communities every day.
