Georgia Military College Awards 82nd Airborne Division’s “All-American” Chorus with Scholarships

Community members weren’t the only ones in for a treat on Thursday night. The 82nd Airborne Division’s “All-American” Chorus performed a free public concert for the Milledgeville community at Georgia Military College.

Following the performance, Georgia Military College President, Lieutenant General William B. Caldwell, IV, USA (Ret.), presented all 28 paratrooper performers with a $1,500 scholarship to attend Georgia Military Global Online Leadership College totaling $42,000.

The 82nd Airborne Division is an active airborne infantry division of the United States Army specializing in joint forcible entry operations. Based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, the 82nd Airborne Division is the primary fighting arm of the XVIII Airborne Corps. The 82nd Division was organized on August 25th, 1917, at Camp Gordon, Georgia. Since its initial members came from all 48 states, the unit acquired the nickname “All-American,” which is the basis for its famed “AA” shoulder patch. The division later served in World War II where, in August 1942, it was reconstituted as the first airborne division of the U.S. Army and fought in numerous campaigns during the war.

“Honoring and supporting our nation’s Veterans is incredibly important to us at Georgia Military College,” said Caldwell. “We continually strive to give back to the men and women of our Armed Forced for their service and sacrifice to our country. This is one way that we can do that so that military members serving our nation can continue to develop as leaders in their personal lives and careers.”

Georgia Military College looks forward to continuing our relationship with the 82nd Airborne Division’s “All-American” Chorus and welcoming them into the GMC family as they further their educational goals with the Global Online Leadership College.
