Georgia’s Lieutenant Governor Appoints Advisory Member to Georgia Military College Board of Trustees

Georgia’s Lieutenant Governor Appoints Advisory Member to

Georgia Military College Board of Trustees

Georgia’s Lieutenant Governor, Geoff Duncan, appointed Floor Leader and Senator Russ Goodman as an advisory member to the Georgia Military College Board of Trustees. Designated as a public authority in the state of Georgia, GMC has served Georgia as a unique educational institution for over 142 years. Through legislative acts of 1920 and 1922, the school was designated a corporate body with a publicly elected Board of Trustees. The Georgia General Assembly provided for a seven-member board to be elected every four years and represent each city council district. Now that the institution’s campus footprint has extended beyond the Milledgeville community, Lieutenant Governor Duncan has appointed an advisory member to the Board.

“On behalf of the Georgia Military College Board of Trustees, we extend our thanks to Lieutenant Governor Duncan for the appointment of Senator Goodman to our Board,” said GMC Board of Trustees Chairman, George Hogan. “Georgia Military College provides hope and opportunity through higher education to students across the state of Georgia. As we continue to make key decisions for our historic institution, it’s important to bring in a different perspective from someone outside of our operating headquarters in Milledgeville. We look forward to Senator Goodman’s advice and guidance in the years to come.”

Senator Goodman currently serves as one of the Governor’s three Senate Floor Leaders and serves on four committees: Agriculture and Consumer Affairs, Natural Resources and Environment, Special Judiciary, and Veterans, Military, and Homeland Security. Senator Goodman is a seventh-generation farmer and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Georgia. He is also the co-owner of Cogdell Berry Farm and is a long-serving member of his community in south Georgia.
Senator Goodman’s first GMC Board of Trustees meeting was July 18, 2022.
