Georgia Military College Unveils Randall A. New Championship Center
Georgia Military College (GMC) held a dedication ceremony and sign unveiling on March 28, 2022 for the Randall A. New Championship Center. The Championship Center is in recognition of Randy New, a proud alumnus of Georgia Military College Prep School (HS’ 71) and Junior College (JC’ 73), who was also commissioned with the GMC Corps of Cadets as a Second Lieutenant in U.S. Army. He served as a representative of District 2 on the GMC Board of Trustees (BOT) from 1992 to 2020 and was Board chairman for 22 years.
“I’m so grateful to have this complex named in my honor,” said New. “I love GMC and everything that happens here. To be a part of this organization for as long as I have has been a blessing in my life. I’m proud to serve as an ambassador for this great institution.”
The Randall A. New Championship Center encompasses GMC athletic facilities Craig Field, Couch Field, Mason Golf Lab, and the Horace Ray Field House located on Elbert Street. During his time as GMC Board of Trustees Chairman and Representative of District 2, New was influential in the creation and building of those facilities, in addition to a number of other major facilities projects, campus expansions, and additional academic degree programs, with a total capital investment that exceeded $100 million. Because of those decisions New approved as Chairman of the Board, he created countless opportunities for the students of Georgia Military College.
After the sign unveiling Monday, New delivered the first pitch at the Randall A. New Championship Center during the Prep School’s Junior Varsity Bulldogs baseball game.
“The Randall A. New Championship Center is sure to provide GMC Prep and Junior College students with memories of victory, friendships bonded over the love of the game, and opportunities to continue playing sports through our student’s next steps in life,” said President of Georgia Military College, Lieutenant General William B. Caldwell, IV, USA (Ret). “Randy is a generous supporter of GMC athletics, and we knew this would be the perfect way to honor his hard work and dedication to Georgia Military College.”
Since retiring from the GMC Board of Trustees, New has continued volunteering his time at GMC, continuing to contribute his time, talent, and treasure to Georgia Military College and its students. For 28 years, he helped shape and mold GMC into the great institution it is today. Congratulations to Randy New for this dedication!
