GMC Names Employee of the Year

Georgia Military College 2018-2019 Employee of the Year: Donnie Meeks

Georgia Military College named Donnie Meeks Employee of the Year for the 2018-2019 school year. Mr. Meeks has had an impactful career at Georgia Military College spanning over 12 years. He is the Shipping and Receiving Manager in GMC’s Engineering Department. After retiring from Central State Hospital with 34 years of service, Mr. Meeks started working part-time at Georgia Military College, and was later offered a full-time position in Shipping and Receiving, but GMC has always meant a lot to his family. His children, Sarah and Jake, both graduated from Georgia Military College Prep School, and Sarah graduated from the junior college. Both went on to complete their college degrees and have established careers, thanks to what Mr. Meeks credits a “solid educational foundation from Georgia Military College.”

A life-long resident of Milledgeville, Mr. Meeks is an active member of Hopewell United Methodist Church. He shares his time and talents working with the church’s Board of Trustees and serves as a Greeter and Usher to welcome everyone each Sunday. He is married to Susie Meeks, Vice President of Business Affairs at GMC, and together they have two children, Sarah Humphrey and Jake Meeks. He enjoys spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter Lucy, who he says lights up his day!

Mr. Meeks says he’s always had a deep respect for Georgia Military College and is honored to be named Employee of the Year.

“We have such a distinguished and dedicated group of employees at GMC, so I was very surprised, but honored to be selected,” Mr. Meeks said. “I enjoy working with such a wonderful team. I’ve made lifelong friends at GMC. As I make deliveries around the campus, I have the opportunity to meet and get to know most of the faculty and staff. Ensuring the GMC employees receive the best service in a timely manner is always my goal when I get to work every day. Keeping my customers happy and satisfied is very important. I’m proud to be a part of the GMC family.”

Georgia Military College had each of the 15 campuses, including the online campus, submit nominees for the Employee of the Year Award. The criteria to be considered in selection are: contribute to student success, grow enrollments, think and act as one institution, and invest in the future of Georgia Military College. When considering who to submit for consideration for Employee of the Year, Mr. Meeks’ colleagues say his contributions to Georgia Military College are invaluable.

“The Engineering Department is lucky to have this valued employee and is honored to nominate Donnie Meeks for the Employee of the Year,” his colleagues said. “One only has to be around Donnie for a short time to understand how he contributes to and exemplifies the GMC strategic initiatives. He contributes to student success every day by getting teachers and professors the materials they need to develop the intellect of its students and by helping those in need as he goes about his daily duties. He serves as a role model to other employees and staff by thinking and acting as one institution in the way he supports all campus and extension center locations. Most of all, he leads by example, displaying all of the positive character traits we work hard to instill in our students.”

In addition to selecting Employee of the Year, many others were recognized for their hard work at Georgia Military College.
