GMC-Fairburn Student, Faith Okolo, Named Coca-Cola Academic Bronze Scholar

Faith Okolo, a student at Georgia Military College’s Fairburn campus, has been named a 2018 Coca-Cola Academic Team Bronze Scholar and will receive a $1,000 scholarship. The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation sponsors the Coca-Cola Academic Team program by recognizing 50 Gold, 50 Silver, and 50 Bronze Scholars with nearly $200,000 in scholarships annually. Each scholar also receives a commemorative medallion.

“The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation has a long history of providing financial assistance to outstanding students at community colleges,” said J. Mark Davis, President of the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation. “We are proud to partner with Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) and make it possible for deserving students to achieve their educational goals.”

Phi Theta Kappa is the premier honor society recognizing the academic achievement of community college students and helping them to grow as scholars and leaders. The Society is made up of more than 3.5 million members and nearly 1,300 chapters in nine nations. Students are nominated for the academic team by their college administrators. Selection is based on academic achievement, leadership, and engagement in college and community service. Coca-Cola Academic Team members will be recognized in both local and statewide ceremonies and will also be recognized internationally during Phi Theta Kappa’s annual convention, PTK Catalyst, April 19-21 in Kansas City, Missouri.

“We thank the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation for recognizing these student leaders and for investing in their futures,” said Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner, President and CEO of Phi Theta Kappa. “Scholarships like these are integral to the success of these students in reaching their educational and career goals.”
In addition to being named a Coca-Cola Academic Team Bronze Scholar, Okolo was also named an All Georgia Phi Theta Kappa Scholar. She says she’s grateful for the opportunity to participate as a Phi Theta Kappa scholar and says she’s even more motivated now to continue reaching her goals since receiving this scholarship.

“I feel blessed and inspired after receiving this award,” Okolo said. “This honor has not only motivated me but has made me more zealous to accomplish my goals. I will also be prepared for obstacles while finding more ways to succeed because success does not sleep.”
Phi Kappa Theta Advisor at Georgia Military College’s Fairburn campus, Dr. Naaman Josiah Pamoja, says seeing Okolo’s hard work payoff is rewarding.

“I felt like a proud parent, I remember when Faith was a first quarter student in my U.S. History class at GMC-Fairburn and later joined PTK,” Pamoja said. “She has certainly made the most of opportunities to grow and develop as a leader and a scholar during her time at the college. Everyone at the Fairburn campus, faculty and staff alike, know that Faith is not only one of our most elite students, but in particular she demonstrates the college’s core values of ‘duty’ and ‘honor’ in the course of all of her academic achievements.”

Georgia Military College congratulates Faith Okolo on her accomplishments!
