GMC Prep One Act cast are regional champions

On Tuesday, October 25, GMC’s Prep School One Act cast put on a show-stopping performance at their regional One Act Competition held at Baldwin County High School. They are now the Georgia High School Association’s (GHSA) Area 8 Single A regional champions. Competing against four schools, the cast had 55-minutes to perform The Wedding Singer and brought audience members to their feet before it was over.

“Our kids brought it yesterday,” said Jenny Morris, GMC’s Prep School Theatre and Dance Director. “They had so much energy. Before the end of the show the audience stood up and gave them a standing ovation. That never happens at competition. The kids really did a great job and I am very proud of them.”

GMC’s Prep School also received the following individual awards:
– 1st Place Show
– Best Costumes
– Best Ensemble
– Best Actor: Wyatt Spivey
– Best Supporting Actress: Kelsie Farley
– All Star Cast Awards:
o Sarah Wilson
o Emma Rice
o Abby McCabe

The cast put in long hours of work to prepare for competition and GMC’s Prep School Fine Arts Director, Mark Weaver, says their hard work is paying off.

“The process starts the first week of August and requires hours and hours of rehearsal, about 10 to 11 hours a week of rehearsal or more,” said Mark Weaver, GMC’s Prep School Fine Arts Director. “Yesterday was the first public performance of the show in competition and they really did great. They were first place among all three judges.”

The cast will perform for the public on Thursday, October 27, and Saturday, October 29, at GMC’s Goldstein Center for the Performing Arts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students, faculty, and staff. They are also gearing up to defend their state championship title on November 5th at Bleckley County High School.
