GMC: October 4 – lost to No. 8 Nassau Community College 22-14 in Garden City, N.Y.
GMC held a 7-6 halftime lead and increased it to 14-6 to open the second half. But Nassau scored the final 16 points, including two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, to rally for the win. Tyler Herman had two TD passes – one to Dominique Taylor for 31 yards and the other to Julian Williams for 36 yards – but finished just 8 of 35 for 127 yards with two interceptions. Jovon Robinson had 84 yards on 17 carries to lead the GMC rushing attack. Donte Beckham led the Bulldogs with a game-high 17 tackles and also blocked a punt. Corey Neely had nine tackles and picked off two passes for GMC, which had a three-game winning streak snapped with the loss. GMC will be facing its fourth ranked opponent already this season (No. 8 Navarro, No. 7 ASA, No. 8 Nassau and No. 11 Tyler).
Tyler: October 4 – defeated Texas A&T (formerly Southeast Prep) 73-6 in Santa Fe, Texas.
Tyler won its fifth straight game after a season-opening loss at Trinity Valley Community College, which is currently 6-0 and ranked No. 4. Tyler led 45-6 at the half and cruised home to the easy victory. Tyler passed for 290 yards, including a 12-for-17 performance from Sederian Copeland for 208 yards and three TD passes. Tyler had seven different receivers catch passes and the Apaches also used nine running backs to pile up 277 yards and six TDs on the ground. T.J. Luper added a 73-yard punt return for a TD. The Tyler defense caused four turnovers, including two fumbles and two interceptions. The Apaches are averaging 62 points-per-game, but they are allowing 36.2 points-per-game heading into the matchup with GMC.
