WR Student Receives Barbara Shaheen Scholarship

Barbara Shaheen Scholarship Recipient

Georgia Military College recently awarded the Barbara Shaheen Scholarship to Cynthia Anne Hemstreet, from Warner Robins, Ga., for fall quarter 2008. Cynthia is studying early childhood education and will graduate in 2009.

Cynthia, who attends the GMC Warner Robins campus, said, “Being awarded the Barbara Shaheen Scholarship is a wonderful, unexpected blessing. I was fearful of whether I would be able to attend the upcoming quarter, and thanks to Ms. Shaheen’s generosity I will be able to continue my educational goals without interruption. I have tremendous respect for Ms. Shaheen for her generosity and her dedication to the students at GMC.”

The Barbara Shaheen Scholarship was established by Barbara Shaheen, also a student at the GMC Warner Robins Campus. “I wanted to give something back, and establishing this scholarship is a way to help another student with their education. As a senior citizen in the state of Georgia there is no charge for my tuition. The scholarship is a great way to repay all the kindness and education I have received from GMC.”
