Tech Thursday Roberts, Outlaw and Tyler pace offense in 28-13 win Brent Martin CNHI CNHI Fri Sep 17, 2010, 08:00 AM EDT MILLEDGEVILLE — The Bulldogs of GMC Junior College deserve a nice break now after serving up two victories in the span of six days. GMC took care of N.C. Tech Thursday night at Davenport Field behind a balanced offensive attack led by quarterback Michael Roberts. The Bulldogs also received some impressive running from backs Jamal Tyler, R.J. Robinson, A.J. Middlebrooks and Josh Harris. All had punishing runs during the contest and all helped contain the Wildcats defense as the game wore on. The Bulldogs (2-1) were down early in the game 6-0, but started battling back after defensive end Leroy Vick forced a big stop on N.C. Tech. GMC freshman specialist/returner Jarrett Neely also continues to impress and set the Bulldogs offense up with several nice returns on special teams. With 11:29 to go in the first half, GMC orchestrated a superb drive that started out with a hard run from Harris before Roberts rolled out only to hit Harris again for another nice gain. Tyler also carried the ball on the drive, before Roberts rolled out and hit a streaking Lonnie Outlaw, who leaped up and made a terrific catch and run. The play then set the Bulldogs up for their first score, a short run by Tyler and a 7-6 lead. Josh Hall then punched the ball through the uprights for the extra point. Kentorius Jackson and the Bulldog defense tried to contain the Wildcats on their next drive, but Tech found a way into the end zone and a 13-7 advantage. Later in the second quarter, Roberts would roll out and find Outlaw for a nice touchdown score, and the Bulldogs re-took the lead, 14-13. GMC JC added more points at the start of the third quarter to increase their lead to 21-13. In the second half, linebackers Demery Hawkins and Jarvis Brice did an excellent job on containing the Wildcats’ offense on more than one drive. The second half would also prove to be a very rough and hard-hitting affair as both teams made daring stops on defense to halt drives. The Bulldogs continued to grind the clock out as the half wore on and continued to apply pressure on Tech’s quarterback. With 33 seconds left in the game GMC added another rushing touchdown, set up by runs by Robinson and Middlebrooks. Quontez Mallory and the GMC defense did the rest of the work as the team went on to preserve their 28-13 victory. The Bulldogs will next face Arkansas Baptist Sept. 25 on the road.
