Summerville Journal Scene® https://www.journalscene.com/sports/Patriot-kicker-signs-with-Bulldogs The Patriots’ first all-state kicker is going to put his skills to the test in another state. Fort Dorchester High School 2010 graduate Josh Hall, on July 31, signed scholarship papers with the Georgia Military College football program. He says he is excited about the opportunity because the junior college has a strong football tradition and playing for the Bulldogs should allow him to gain experience that may help him down the road. “We were looking at my options and Georgia Military popped up,” Hall said. “They seem like a good place for me. They don’t have a kicker on campus and they have a great track record of turning out successful football players. They have had 31 players move on to the NFL and just last week they had two sign with the Gamecocks.” Since 1991, the Bulldog football team has developed 57 All-Americans and sent over 350 young men to continue their education and athletic careers at four-year institutions across the country. In that time, the team also won the 2001 NJCAA national championship, finished as the national runner-up in 2002 and 2005, and played in 10 bowl games. After an amazing senior season for the Patriots, Hall was named to the 2009 Associated Press and High School Sports Report All-State football teams. As a senior, he scored 68 points, making 15-of-16 field goal attempts and 26-of-29 extra-point attempts. His longest field goal of the season was from 43 yards out. Hall hit three field goals in the Fort’s 16-14 win over Wando and four in the Patriots’ 18-0 victory over Goose Creek. The four against the Gators tied the state record for most kicks in a single game. He also handled kickoff duties for the football team and was a member of the Fort soccer team. Hall, who plans to major in Marine Biology with a minor in business, leaves Aug. 8 to join his new team. He says the campus has a small-town feel to it so overall he doesn’t think it will be a huge change for him, but he knows it will mean some adjustments, particularly on the field. “The stadium is about the size of the one here, but I think everything there will be at a faster pace,” Hall said. “I still have a lot to learn. I just started kicking off the ground instead of from a tee this summer. That’s a big transition, but the coach at Georgia Military told me I was doing pretty good with it.” Out of 20 fieldgoal attempts during his tryout, Hall only missed three. On kickoffs, he placed four kicks inside the 5-yard line and six inside the 10. Hall is the son of FDHS assistant coach Chip Hall and Tonya Hall. His brother, Ryan, is a lineman at Presbyterian College. Contact Roger Lee @ 873-9424 ext. 213 or rlee@journalscene.com.
