WILLIAM R. HASTINGS (aka RAY DURRELL)
RECEIVES SPECIAL INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION

Congratulations to GMC Art Professor and Artist WILLIAM R. HASTINGS (aka RAY DURRELL) of McINTYRE, GEORGIA has received two Special Recognition Merit Awards for his artwork selected for the “11th Annual Abstraction Juried Online International Art Exhibition”
hosted by Upstream People Gallery in the United States.

This international exhibition received approximately 350 entries from around the world and 68 artists were selected by the juror Larry Bradshaw, Professor of Art at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, U. S. A.

Professor Bradshaw states this about this specially recognized work: “WILLIAM R. HASTINGS (aka Ray Durrell) of McIntyre, Georgia is a true professional serigrapher. One of the most fascinating works here is “Entrance” with the linear movements on the outside and the strong and simple light and dark shapes in the center. Also quite striking is the cool volumetric mass in the field of a warm geometric patterning in his “At the Heart of the Matter”.”

The exhibition will featured during October 2009 and continue online in the archives section at Upstream People Gallery through September 30, 2010.

Mr. Hastings commented on this special work, “This work is from a series of serigraphs that were hand pulled by the artist in his studio and the series makes an artistic statement about the energy that generates, operates, and ultimately destroys all that exists.

All stencils were hand cut by the artist, as well as all other work on the piece. All stencils were destroyed, making reproduction in original medium impossible.
