A Message from President Caldwell on Constitution and Citizenship Day
Every year on September 17th our nation is blessed as we honor and celebrate our Constitution and Citizenship Day. On this day we are reminded of the enduring significance of the United States Constitution—a document that has shaped the fabric of our nation since its inception. It is more than just a set of laws; it is the bedrock upon which our country’s values, freedoms, and system of governance are built. For over two centuries, the Constitution has guided our nation through times of peace and turmoil, ensuring that the principles of liberty, justice, and equality remain at the heart of the American experience.
At Georgia Military College, we believe that the values embodied in the Constitution are synonymous with the values we hold so dear—duty, honor, and love of country—and are not only central to the American identity but also fundamental to the education and development of our students. These values reflect the very core of what we strive to instill in each of them as we develop each into an authentic servant leader. Just as the Constitution has provided a framework for our nation’s growth and success, these principles of patriotism guide our journey to contribute to society and lead with integrity.
It is essential that every generation of students read, understand, and reflect on our Constitution. The principles within it are as relevant today as they were when they were first written. At GMC, we are committed to teaching not only the history of the Constitution but also its ongoing impact on our daily lives. Understanding this document is key to appreciating the rights and responsibilities we share as citizens of this great nation.
As we look to the future, Georgia Military College will continue to prioritize the teaching of the principles in our Constitution. Our mission is to ensure that each of our students, as leaders of tomorrow, understand the importance of protecting and upholding the values that have made our country united and free. The Constitution is more than a historical artifact; it is a living document that guides us, challenges us, and calls us to a higher standard.
On this Constitution and Citizenship Day, let us all recommit ourselves to honoring the principles that have shaped our nation, and to uphold the duty, honor, and love of country that we cherish so deeply at Georgia Military College.
